The Deer at the River

During our 2018 Summer road trip, I went out on a waterfall trail.  And on that trail I saw a buck laying down in a small clearing next to the river that fed the waterfall.  I looked around and saw no one else.  How delighted I was to be the only one here, because that meant that he was all mine, as there was no other to scare him away or do something stupid and make the buck charge. And so I stayed and photographed and observed the stag for a few minutes before continuing my way down the trail.

Over the past few days I have been adding four photographs that are my favourite of this buck at this cascading river forest spot to my Zazzle shop, Developing Nature. You can purchase the photograph(s) to be printed on items for housewares, decor and office supplies.

Even though the young stag is really small in this landscape scene, it is still wonderful to view.

And you place this zoomed in deer image next to the river image to complement the landscape photograph.

I like how there is a natural curvature that kinda makes an arrow pointing toward the stag.

By far my favourite one! I just love the framing that the tree branches provided.

We Got Another Puppy

My goal was to have a new pup in the house before my son came home from college for Winter break.

In November we started sending out applications to adopt a young dog, that turned into a search for a German Shepherd, purebred or mixed it didn’t matter.  The adoption process failed.  We requested for 12 different dogs.  There were denials because we have children.  We were asked to vaccinate our current dog with a dangerous vaccine, that even good veterinarians are against. That rescue is not run by a veterinarian so they probably didn’t educate their-selves on the dangers of vaccines.  We have lived in many places and have never heard of this vaccine until Washington State.  How gross of a person must be to not provide clean water and leave your dog to drink mucky water that another animal urinated in.  We were asked to put up at least a 6 foot fence around our property. Our property is already fenced in and is a difficult layout as is.  The fence is lined with trees, bushes, shrubs and in some spots, it has a steep drop on the other side.  IF a dog somehow gets over the fence, it is going to have to figure out how to get out from the shrub or thorns, and drop down to the ground about 4 ft.  Some rescues said that they would not place a female dog with another female dog. And some rescues just never replied back.

So, on Monday we went from being told by a teen that German Shepherds are not family dogs and they are not going to allow us to buy a dog from that Humane Society, to a quick internet advert search and buying a 10 weeks old puppy from a teen backyard breeder on the way home. I did not like this option, but it was what we had available to us.  Those pups need rescuing from the mucky living style of that backyard.  I don’t think they are pure German Shepherd dogs.  I am thinking a hound or a husky was in an earlier generation. There was some white, so definitely some inbreeding is going on.  It was clear that these people were not interested in the distinction and regal nature of the German Shepherd, but only of the dollar signs that they see with each newborn pup.

Without further ado, here she is!

This little ball of energy is stealing hearts and chewing on everything.  I can’t wait for the adult teeth to come in!  She is following every step we take and is howling when she can’t see us.  We are working on going potty outside, what can be chewed on and what not to chew on, and getting on a sleep and eat schedule.
